Open education is an educational system that aims to provide higher education opportunities to individuals regardless of their location or personal circumstances.

Open education in Türkiye

Open education is an educational system that aims to provide higher education opportunities to individuals regardless of their location or personal circumstances. This system provides lessons and study materials online, allowing students to study and learn at any time and from anywhere.

It allows students to better manage their time according to their daily schedule and personal and work requirements. The open education system has several advantages, including not requiring daily attendance on campus, as attendance is only required for midterm and final exams. This system also provides various educational resources such as text lectures, audio lectures, educational videos and books.

It also provides access to social media platforms and educational forums to communicate with professors and colleagues and exchange experiences and knowledge. The open education system is an invaluable opportunity for those who cannot attend public or private universities due to distance, financial status, or other reasons. Turkish universities provide open education offices in most cities in Turkey to facilitate the registration process and obtain a student ID. It is considered one of the best options for students who are looking to obtain a university degree but cannot attend campus regularly due to their special circumstances, as it provides them with access to higher education at their fingertips. In addition, the open education system allows students to learn according to their own time and preferred learning style, making it a good option for students who prefer self-learning and independence. Moreover, the open education system allows students to save costs that they may face if they attend a traditional university, as educational materials are provided online and there is no need to purchase textbooks, and travel and accommodation costs are reduced.

Finally, the open education system provides students with the opportunity to learn and obtain a recognized university degree, which can open doors to better job opportunities and increase their chances of success. Another way to enroll is to transfer from another university. The second university system (Ikinci Üniversite) is an important option for students who want to study in open education in Turkey.

This system allows registration at any university in Turkey regardless of the branch, and it is not required that this branch be the same as the one the student wishes to study in open education. It is important to note that a student who wishes to obtain a degree from one of the open education colleges must have a seat in a regular college in the same branch, while there is no difference between obtaining a degree from an open education institute and a regular college university. In this way, students can obtain an internationally recognized university degree through open education in Turkey without having to enroll in regular education at traditional Turkish universities. Three universities in Turkey provide the open education system, namely Anadolu University, Istanbul University, and Ataturk University. Anadolu University is the oldest in this field, as it began offering its system in the eighties. It is distinguished by the diversity of its specializations and branches, as it provides more than 60 specializations, and provides complete information about each branch, including job opportunities after graduation and the advantages of each branch.

The success system is somewhat flexible, as it depends on the students' grade point average in the branch, and the success mark can reach 30%, and whoever gets higher than that is considered successful. Istanbul University began offering the open education system in 2010 and is one of the emerging universities in this field. It offers a range of modern specializations that are not available at Anadolu University. As for the success system at the university, it requires a score higher than 40 to pass the subject, which makes it more difficult than the Anadolu University system. On the other hand, Ataturk University is one of the modern universities in this field, as it began offering its system in 2017. It is distinguished by offering distinguished programs in several modern specializations and is keen to provide modern educational resources to students. The university requires a success score of no less than 50 in the subject, which makes its system more stringent than others.
